I always heard that 'you should have the light come over your left shoulder.' I don't know if that's a common saying or just much-repeated by a few people I know. My left eye's "lazy" and I prefer the light on my right side.
Do you mind overhead lighting? Some loathe it. I can honestly say it's caused me no heartache.
At a desk, I enjoy a banker's light, but I haven't been at a desk to read in nearly a year (-long story), so I don't much think about that.

Fri, June 16, 2006 - 9:04 AMI hold a flashlight over it. Provides illumination under the covers when I'm reading at night, and my parents can't see it. -

Sat, June 17, 2006 - 8:23 AMYou're going to ruin your eyes.
Where did the left shoulder thing come from? In feng shui, you're also supposed to have the light source for your workspace on your left.
(I do not. And so I never get any work done and am always on Tribe.)

Re: Where do you place yourself in relation to the light you read by?
Sun, June 18, 2006 - 3:23 AMTricky- I have a lamp on the headboard of my bed. If I am sitting up and reading it's over my right shoulder. If I am reading while lying on my stomach ( I usually do this) it's on my left.
