    <summary type="html">Salman Rushdie's 'The Enchantress of Florence". And compared to his other books, above all "The Earth beneath her feet" and "The satanic verses", which I reread and love, the initial 50 pages or so leave me feeling like the editor was asleep at the wheel. Duplications, common-place expressions, not the verbal firework and attention to detail that I am used to. Perhaps it will pick up...</summary>
